Environment and biodiversity

Jamboree Denmark 2026 is focused on reducing the negative influence that we, as a campsite and organisation has on both nature and the biological diversity at Hedeland Naturpark. We aim to either leave it as we received it, and preferably, better.

The effort has be estimated significantly on the basis of the experiences from previous jamborees, knowledge of similar events and the Scouting movements values on respecting nature. Hedeland Naturpark is a former gravel pit, which is now a nature area rich in species with a high biodiversity and habitat for, among others, orchids, amphibians, birds and endangered species of butterflies.

Without valid and comparable data from earlier jamborees, the Jamboree Planning Organisation will not have concrete objectives for themes, but common knowledge is used to focus efforts that are deemed to have the biggest effect.

An objective for the work with biodiversity at Jamboree Denmark 2026 is to collect and secure data for a comparative foundation and concrete objectives for future jamborees

The Jamboree Planning Organisation have worked concretely with this theme through the following efforts:

  • The areas of nature conservation are converted to protected areas, which can be seen on the jamboree map lejrkortet. These include among others the rare Amanda’s Blue butterfly that resides on the northwestern area of the jamboree site.
  • There is a swimming prohibition in Flintesø to protect algae, that require a nutrient poor water environment.
  • Distance is kept to Bavnehøj and other vulnerable areas to limit the disruption of wildlife .
  • Passages will be established over the cultural dykes to protect the historic soil layers and the seed bank of older plant species that exist in the area

Efforts have primarily been anchored under infrastructure and readiness herein the area of Risk authorisation and Safety, who, in collaboration with relevant municipalities, have worked to identify and protect vulnerable areas of nature and include a regard to biodiversity in the planing of the jamboree. The intervention area is not a part of the jamboree’s following sustainability report. This is because the biodiversity can not be done with a simple point measurement, f.ex. during the jamboree. It will require a list of measurement before, during and after- in order to say anything valid about the effect of the jamboree on biodiversity.
