We are conscious of how we affect humans and nature!
When we engage more than 5,000 volunteers to create a jamboree for 30,000 people, we have a big responsibility to create a good framework for all participants. Equally we also wish to minimize the environmental impact of the jamboree on the limited resources of our planet and on our physical campsite.
The jamboree executive committee has thoroughly analyzed data from previous jamborees to identify how we can make the biggest impact by all together doing a bit more. For this reason we have focused on the food at the jamboree, transportation, energy and the work environment of the volunteers.
We will eat more green and as local foods as possible
The 30,000 participants and volunteers at Jamboree Denmark 2026 eat around 750,000 meals during the nine days of the camp, which has a big impact on the climate and the environment. Therefore, the jamboree executive committee has decided, among other things, that the meals at the camp will follow the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration’s official dietary guidelines and be primarily vegetable focused. In the purchasing process, there will also be a focus on using seasonal produce and products from local suppliers, as far as this makes environmental, social and economic sense for the camp as a whole. In concrete terms, these decisions have meant, among other things:
- A minimum of 500,000 meals at the jamboree will be vegetable based, which we expect will reduce the CO2 emmission from food with about a third compared to Jamboree Denmark 2022
- Minimum a third of all the food at the jamboree will be organic
- It will be possible to choose between dairy milk and plant-based alternatives everywhere at the jamboree
- We are developing a vegetable-based cookbook with many delicious and filling recipes which can all easily be cooked over a bonfire after a busy day of activities. They will be available prior to the jamboree, so feel free to try them out at home.

We need to be mindful of transportation
In all phases of Jamboree Denmark 2026 transportation creates a large impact on the climate. When 30,000 guides and scouts head to the jamboree and when volunteers meet up during the planning phase to create the framework for the jamboree. Therefore, Jamboree Denmark 2026 has decided that:
- We give our skilled volunteers access to online meeting tools and only encourage physical meetings when necessary. For physical meetings the location should require as little transport as possible
- We are looking at different initiatives to increase carpooling at our larger physical planning sessions (move than 100 participants), as this makes sense both from an environmental and economic perspective. The goal is that all cars (in average) has 2,5 people to and from physical Jamboree Denmark 2026 events.
- We offer shared transportation to and from the camp via environmentally friendly (Euro 6) buses. This way, we help participants solve a logistical challenge while halving the average CO2 emissions from transportation to and from the camp per person

Transportation and CO2 emissions
At Jamboree Denmark 2022 66,5% of danish participants used the shared transportation. Close to 8% arrived by bike or hiking and 23% arrived in cars.
The average CO2 emission for each person in the shared transportation was 15 kg CO2, while a personal car (with three passengers) emitted 31,6 kg CO2.
We need to be mindful of energy consumption
Even though Jamboree Denmark 2026 takes place outside we still need power. Toilettes, stages and emergency services all require electricity and we are trying to choose our power sources to ensure an optimal jamboree experience. We have looked into the following:
- We are looking into whether it is worthwhile to connect the jamboree’s primary energy supply to the existing fixed network by digging down (and subsequently up) new cables from an economic, biodiversity and environmental perspective – with an eye on the alternatives?
- We will to the best of our ability, reduce our power consumption. For example we have chosen a dark layout and local servers for this webpage, as it reduces the energy consumption.

We need to increase recycling of materials
Jamboree Denmark 2026 has a goal to rent and not own, where it is possible. And for the things we need to buy, we do our very best to ensure that they have a life after the jamboree. This is why we will:
- Borrow materials for activites and events which can continue its life after the jamboree
- Rent big tents, toilettes, machines and others materials which can be used by others after the jamboree.
- Host an online auction for all interested parties after the jamboree, to ensure that power-tools and leftover firewood can be used by others in the future
- At Jamboree Denmark 2026 we follow the direction of our host municipalities and sort our waste in 12 fractions, to ensure as much as possible can be recycled

It has to be fun to be part of the jamboree as a volunteer – also in busy seasons
Jamboree Denmark 2026 needs to create a good environment for all its volunteers. Both during the planning, during the jamboree and after. We focuse on a good social setting and aims to provide opportunities and experiences for the volunteers in connection to Jamboree Denmark 2026. When you help make Jamboree Denmark 2026 happen, you will get the opportunity to:
- All leadership positions are filled by a two-person team. This ensures that it is possible to take a break when neceassary, without affecting the entire planning process
- We strongly encourage setting expectations between leadership and volunteers and equally we encourage leadership to check in with the individual volunteer every six months
- To be part of the community across the entire jamboree organization by participating both locally in your area and on the common planning weekends
- To participate in events for volunteers in different functions, both to ensure a breathing space and collect unique experiences
It just takes more!
Scouting and Guiding Denmark has the opportunity to move the world forward by hosting Jamboree Denmark 2026. This we aim to do in several ways and by creating small changes to ensure higher sustainability (both from an environmental and social point of view)
This does not stand alone, but is a starting point to ensure that Jamboree Denmark 2026 is moving in a positive direction and takes responsibility in the world we live in. We dare make bold decisions and we dare to be critical of our options to ensure the world will remain in many years to come.
