Jambassadorial Duties

Whether arriving by train, ferry or plane, international participants have been met by
Jamboree Denmark’s Jambassadors.

The Jambassadors, part of the jamboree’s international team, are the helping hands that assist international troops to make the most of their Jamboree experiences.

We look after all of the international visitors,” says Louise Madden, a Jambassador from the UK, “welcoming them to site, helping with any issues, and getting them the right kit and equipment.”. Some of the team spent long hours in Copenhagen airport, “the last group arrived after 2.a.m.”, Louise says.

Working as a team to resolve issues, the Jambassadors can be seen roaming the campsite wearing purple hats. They aim to have one Dane and one international volunteer in each pair. They’ve volunteers from the UK, Denmark, Norway, Austria and Bangladesh. The job involves “practical skills and diplomacy”, Louise explains, “and a hotline and WhatsApp group!”

This is Louise’s first Danish Jamboree.

I heard great things, and wanted to be a part of that.” she says. She enjoys the nature of the IST (international service team) experience: “try a new job, in a field for a week, do something different, and make a hive of new friends along the way.”.

On Danish Scouting, Louise has been impressed by the campcraft on display. “It epitomises everything about Scouting”, she says, “Danish Scouts working together to build their amazing campsites. She also feels that, although there is a focus on the outside & being in nature, it remains completely relevant to this generation. “The event is using technology where appropriate,”, with the camp app for navigation and activity bookings, “but not as a distraction.”.

Louise says an abiding memory will be seeing some Micro Scouts playing in Havet Subcamp’s sand pit. “One of them spotted a rope buried in the sand, and then all the Cubs who were playing in the sandpit, started working together until the rope got unstuck”. “That’s something I would like to take that back to my Beavers”
