Subcamp day in subcamp Havet offered robots, fish, a ball pit and a brand new system for managing stations

The jamboree’s first subcamp day got off to a great start in subcamp Havet. Here, 2,300 guides and scouts turned up for shared activities to suit all ages and interests.

Subcamp Havet is buzzing with life now that subcamp day has begun. Botten Paul needs repairing, and this means the guides and scouts from subcamp Havet must both collect data and carry out experiments out in the laboratories. 

Today, the first subcamp day was held in subcamp Havet. On the subcamp days, guides and scouts aged 8–17+ can take on new activities, compete and collaboration with their neighbours at the jamboree.

In practice, this means that 2,300 guides and scouts move through the streets, lanes and up the hills, trying to collect data by tracking down the “dead” stations run by the Boxter system, which has been under development for eight years! Using a provided map, the guides and scouts can both scan their arrival at each station and answer questions, with the level of difficulty adjusted to their age. The data to be collected falls into three categories: the body, the brain and the scouting and guiding spirit. Once enough data has been gathered within a given category, the guides and scouts can move on to the laboratories, which are “live” checkp

The subcamp team proudly displayed a screen with live updates showing how many stations the different groups had completed. From here, they had an overview of all 150 Boxter boxes hidden around subcamp Havet and Activity Centre North, where the subcamp day for subcamp Havet was being held.

Both the number of stationsthey need to visit and the stations themselves are differentiated, so there are challenges for everyone – whether you are 8 or 17+,” says Mathias Høgsgaard, who is team leader for subcamp day in subcamp Havet.

Monday is subcamp Havet, then the subcamp day moves to the subcamp Skoven on Tuesday, before shifting to the Activity Centre East for the subcamps Byen and Landet on Thursday and Friday.

The guides and scouts themselves seem in very good spirits, even if some must have been rushing around.  In any case, they were much faster than the team had expected.

Here, I meet the patrol Firkløveren from Norway. Most of them have been to international jamborees before, but they have not previously experienced activities that run across the whole subcamp. They find it creative and new.

Both of the two Danish groups, the 3rd Absalon and Fjordbyens Sønner, are pleased to get to know those around them better and even meet classmates. They repeatedly highlight the collaboration between the groups.
